Celebs on twitter
The lovely lady behind ChrisEvansV.net posted this on twitter this morning, and I feel it would be a helpful guideline to all fandoms. Please share.
“Hey fans ! Some guidelines for being respectful to celebrities on Twitter:
Thanks to Twitter, fans have a way to send messages instantly to some of their favorite celebrities. And I know celebrities love hearing from their fans too. But lately, I’ve noticed that some fans have really been pressuring their favorite celebrities and demanding their attention. It’s downright abusive!!!
Celebrities are people. They have thoughts and feelings just like you do. They are not objects. You don’t own them. Just because you’re a fan doesn’t mean that your favorite sports hero, musician or actor/actress owes you a tweet, a reply to your tweet, a retweet, a birthday wish or a follow.
It’s all about respect. Think about how you would want to be treated. Here are a few rules I think are important when tweeting anyone especially celebrities.
1.Don’t spam their timelines. Its rude and annoying. No need to tweet the same photo/message/drawing 100 times. Once really is enough. If they want to respond, they will.
2. Don’t beg, demand or start a petition to be followed. You don’t have to be followed by your favorite celebrity just to be heard. Most celebs read their mentions and will see your message as long as you include their twitter name.
3. Don’t say ‘I’m going to tweet you every day until you respond’. That’s harassment and also a good way to get blocked.
4. Stop asking questions about their private lives. If there’s something they want to share with their followers, they will. Otherwise it’s really none of your business.
5. And finally have fun and remember to always be polite, be creative, be interesting and most important be respectful. If everyone did this, Twitter would be a much better experience for all of us.”
